The LANCIA 037 made its debut as a group B machine in 1982.
After a several disappointing years, drivers such as Walter Roll and Mark Allen helped the team to win the Manufacturers title. The rear wheel drive Lancia 037 was manufactured specifically to defeat Audi\'s 4WD Quattro. The Lancia 037\'s characteristics was its distinctive handling, a supercharged \"Volmetrico\" engine and its stylish body design.
Although the 037 was very fast on the straights its unique rear wheel drive system meant that only the most skilled drivers could control it around tight bends. It was often seen driving dramatically around corners virtually sideways, with the driver making full use of the uniquely curved front windscreen.
